Former NBA player Royce White is just the latest to give his take on the incident of Ja Morant showing a gun on Instagram Live stream that resulted in him being suspended by the Grizzlies and being investigated by police.
The former Houston Rockets draft pick, who never played a game due to his mental health, stated that the Grizzlies star’s behavior should not be acceptable, but in reality is rather widespread in certain communities.
He brought up the Black community as well as Black Lives Matter to bring home his point.
“This is not something that black people should be onboard with,” White said. “We can’t cry about ‘Black Lives Matter’ and the police using fatal force and shooting us in the streets but we drink alcohol at the strip club and play with a gun.
“And this isn’t rare. It’s rare for a budding superstar basketball player to do on social media, but if you’re from the hood like I’m form, this whole motif isn’t rare at all.
“This has become the new norm. Young kids who are immature, who wear a hoodie up like that, tie it and got the ski mask and the whole… the whole motif has become commonplace for black communities across this country. Anybody who says that it’s not, they’re lying.”
Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant had more trouble on his hands as he was being investigated by police in Glendale, Colorado, after he appeared to flash a gun at a nightclub in the city during an Instagram Live video over the weekend. The police have since come out and stated they will not be filing charges against him.

The video posted to Instagram Live from Morant’s account late Friday night reportedly is “believed to have been filmed in Glendale, a small enclave surrounded by Denver and known for its strip clubs and shopping centers.”
The Grizzlies announced Saturday that Morant will be away from the team for at least the next two games, but have since added that he will be out an additional four games.
The 23-year-old is having a tremendous season as the Grizzlies are looked at as a title contender. This bit of news has thrown a monkey wrench in their season.
