The Dallas Mavericks secured a significant 116-107 victory in Game 3, propelling them to the NBA Finals for the first time since their lone championship win 13 years ago. This triumph silenced critics of the Mavericks, especially those targeting Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
After Game 3 win, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III was particularly vocal about the unjust criticism directed at Doncic and Irving. Griffin took to social media, calling for the duo’s detractors to issue an apology.
“A lot of people have to apologize to Luka and Kyrie. They are a perfect match together,” Griffin posted on his X account.
The Mavericks’ success in the series can be primarily attributed to the dominance of Doncic and Irving. Despite trailing in the final five minutes of each game, Dallas managed to clinch all three victories. This was possible due to the duo’s exceptional performance on the court. In the critical moments of Game 3, Doncic and Irving combined for 20 points in the fourth quarter.
Doncic concluded the game with an impressive 33 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Irving matched his contribution with 33 points and four assists, shooting an efficient 12-of-20 from the field.
Kyrie Irving Stresses Importance of Championship Over Best Duo Title
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving’s duo has been stunning in Game 3. They each scored at least 30 points in the same game three times in a single postseason. This remarkable achievement makes them the first starting backcourt duo to reach this milestone. Yet, Irving remains cautious about claiming they are the best duo in NBA history.

During the post-game press conference, a reporter asked Irving about fans’ assertions that he and Doncic form the greatest backcourt in NBA history. Instead of boasting, he boldly claimed that their dominance on the court would only be justified by winning a championship ring.
“Who said that? It doesn’t mean anything if we don’t win a ring together, and I say that very responsibly too,” Irving stated.
No team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs, putting the Mavericks in a strong position. With the series heavily in their favor, the Mavericks are set to play Game 4 on Tuesday night in Dallas.
