Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen is expected to be the most sought-after free agent in 2025. The star has already set his bar unexpectedly high with his performance. Hence, the top-order teams are vying to pursue him, including the Golden State Warriors.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors have proposed a substantial package to acquire Markkanen. This offer includes Moses Moody, multiple first-round picks, pick swaps, and second-round picks.
“The Golden State Warriors have been the most engaged team for Markkanen in recent weeks, as league sources tell The Athletic they have discussed a proposal around Moses Moody, multiple first-round picks, multiple pick swaps, and multiple second-round picks,” Charania reported.
The Warriors are particularly active in free agency following the departure of their star, Klay Thompson, who recently joined the Dallas Mavericks, sharing a heartfelt farewell message. The Warriors are now looking to fill the void left by Thompson’s exit.
Jazz Demand Jonathan Kuminga in the Warriors’ Lauri Markkanen Trade Talks
Before Lauri Markkanen, the Golden State Warriors tried to pursue Paul George, but failed as he joined the Philadelphia 76ers. Hence, the Warriors are giving their all to bring in a third superstar and pair him with Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
However, acquiring Markkanen will not be straightforward. Charania noted that Utah has demanded even more in return, including Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and additional picks.

“I think from the Warriors’ perspective it’s Podziemski, but then there’s not all the picks. And if it’s all the picks, then there’s not gonna be a Podziemski. Both sides are kind of entrenched right now at where they’re at, saying nothing’s going to change,” Charania said.
The Jazz are evidently keen on maximizing their return by letting go of their star player, who is coming off a stellar season. Markkanen averaged 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists last season. He also shot 48% from the floor and 39.9% from beyond the arc.
