Just when you thought you couldn’t get anymore heartbreaking information from the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and his daughter, more info surfaced this week.
Vanessa Bryant was initially told on January 26th that five individuals had survived the deadly helicopter crash. When she heard that news, she assumed the Lakers legend had survived as well as her daughter.
“The assistant said that five people had survived the crash that day, Jan. 26, 2020,” wrote Jonathan Abrams and Kevin Draper of the New York Times. “Bryant said that she figured Kobe and Gianna would be among them and would be helping the other victims. But as she tried to call her husband, notifications began popping up on her phone: R.I.P. Kobe. R.I.P. Kobe.”
The statement came as part of a deposition for the lawsuit Vanessa Bryant filed against Los Angeles County.
Just last week, Los Angeles County wanted Vanessa Bryant and others involved in a lawsuit over leaked photos to submit themselves to a psychiatric review to prove distress from the photos. According to a report from ESPN, Vanessa Bryant has a federal lawsuit against the county, alleging invasion of privacy and claiming in court papers that she has experienced “severe emotional distress” which has compounded the trauma of losing her husband and 13-year-old daughter.
LA County argued an independent medical examination would be necessary to determine whether the emotional distress suffered by Bryant and others was caused by the leak of the photos or the helicopter crash itself.
In an internal investigation of the incident by the sheriff’s department, investigators found that deputies did share the photos.
