NBA is all set for the 79th season that kicks off on October 22, 2024. With the 2024-25 season approaching really fast, an intriguing report has come up regarding the biggest basketball league considering the expansion.
Recently, a popular page on X called Legion Hoops shared a post stating that the NBA will consider the expansion teams to begin playing games from the 2027-28 season.
According to ESPN’s earlier report, the NBA is considering adding at least one expansion team in the coming two or three years. However, now it seems that they are targeting the 2027-28 season for the same.
What Can Be Expected From NBA’s Expansion Draft In The 2027-28 Season?
Since the last NBA expansion team joined the league in 2004, people have wondered what will change in the coming 2027-28 season. So, the last time when this happened, the teams were asked to protect not more than eight players. Moreover, they had to leave at least one player unprotected even if they had just eight players.
Also, the league’s teams were allowed to choose just one player from any existing NBA franchise. Once a player has been selected by a team, no other team can select any player from that particular team. In addition to this, the active player will not be permitted to be stakeholder in any of the existing or expansion franchises.
It is noteworthy that the rules of the upcoming NBA expansion draft could change. These rule changes may include the aforementioned or the salary cap on the expansion team. However, there has been no official update on the rules until now. So, fans will have to wait patiently to see what the reported upcoming 2027-28 season expansion draft will look like.
