Basketball fans were shocked on Wednesday when ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski announced his retirement from the news industry. The 55-year-old spent seven years at ESPN and thrilled NBA fans for years with fast news coverage. He entertained sports enthusiasts during several appearances on news shows. However, ESPN is wasting no time in filling the vacancy with a new, surprising NBA analyst.
According to recent reports from Michael McCarthy, senior reporter at Front Office Sports, ESPN is expected to pursue NBA analysts Shams Charania and Chris Haynes from The Athletic.
“My sources tell me ESPN will likely talk to Shams Charania, Wojanrowski’s former Yahoo Sports protégé, and former ESPNer Chris Haynes. Both are pending free agents, according to the New York Post. The 30-year-old Charania’s deals with The Athletic, Stadium, and FanDuel are all up. Ditto for the 42-year-old Haynes, who has plenty of on-camera experience.” McCarthy wrote in his recent reports.
Charania has established himself as one of the top NBA analysts in the news industry. As his contract with The Athletic, Stadium, and FanDuel nears its end, ESPN’s move for Charania would be beneficial. Additionally, Hynes, who previously worked for ESPN, has also made a name for himself as a famous NBA insider around the league.
Wojnarowski previously worked for Yahoo Sports and The Record of Bergen County. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Jeff Passan, and Adam Schefter, the NBA Insider has agreed to become the general manager of the men’s basketball program at St. Bonaventure.

“It is a thrill of a lifetime to be able to return to a university and community that I love in a role of service to our student-athletes, coaches and institution. I am hopeful that I can bring value in a lot of areas to our basketball program and open doors for our young men’s futures in ways both professionally and personally.” Wojnarowski told ESPN.
