The Phoenix Suns registered their third preseason win on Sunday, beating the Nuggets 118-114. Suns rookie Ryan Dunn stepped up without star players Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Jusuf Nurkic. With his strong performances ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, NBA analysts and fans believe the Suns “might hit a grand slam.”
In Sunday’s victory against the Nuggets, the 28th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft started as a shooting guard for the Suns. He scored 20 points with 6-off-11 three-point shots and registered 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.
NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor praised the rookie and claimed he could be the “special piece” for the Suns. “Ryan Dunn might be the steal of the draft. The Suns really might have hit a grand slam with him. A defender of his elite caliber with his seemingly newfound jumper is a special piece for a contender, even as a rookie,” he wrote.
In the absence of their regular starters, Suns rookie Dunn started the game alongside Monte Morris, Royce O’Neale, Bol Bol, and Mason Plumlee. The forward played as No.2 against the Nuggets and scored a joint-team-high 20 points alongside Morris.
Ryan Dunn’s Strong Preseason Could Earn Him Playing Time For The Suns
The Suns will look to improve this season following their disappointing 4-0 first-round playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The addition of Ryan Dunn has been the Suns’ most promising move this offseason. In his four games for the Suns, Dunn played over 22 minutes per game. He averaged 11 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.8 blocks.
