With the NBA season in full flow, the Phoenix Suns are having some significant difficulty outside the court. In a recent update, a former employee allegedly filed a lawsuit against management at the US District Court in Arizona. Andrea Trischan accused the Suns of unlawful retaliation and racial discrimination that made her lose her job with the Suns. As per the reports, Trischan was the former manager of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Apart from the initial allegations, Trischan also accused the Suns’ employees of potential sexual and financial misconduct. She was a part of the Suns’ management for 10 months, from September 2022 to July 2023. Stressing the importance of the situation, Trischan’s attorney issued an official statement. It read, “Andrea’s case is built on substantial evidence that establishes a clear and undeniable pattern of discrimination within the Suns organization.”
As a matter of fact, Trischan got to her position immediately after the suspension of Robert Sarver, who was the previous owner. There were a number of allegations against Sarver, chief among which were ‘organizational deficiencies and workplace misconduct.’ However, despite selling the club to Mat Ishbia for an approximate $4 billion, the interim issues seemingly did not seem resolve.
Facing challenges while working, the authorities ultimately fired Andrea Trischan in 2023. Trischan did not seem to take the decision lightly, as she immediately claimed justice. Thus, she filed an instant complaint, which again, unfortunately, faced rejection.
Andrea Trischan Suffered A Setback Initially
Soon after losing her job, Trischan lodged a complaint at the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She also submitted her grievances with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office’s Civil Rights division. Much to the dismay of the former Sun employee, the plea was dismissed on November 5. Such a ruling made the Suns confident about her latest lawsuit too facing rejection.
“Her claims have been without merit from day one, and now this lawsuit, in which she is seeking $60M, is based on the same claims that were just dismissed. We are fully confident the courts will agree her story is completely fabricated,” the Suns’ Vice President of Communications, Stacey Smith stated. Thus, with both parties taking shots at each other, it remains to be seen which path the controversy takes in the future.
