The New York Knicks just can’t seem to catch a break.
After finishing the 2018-19 season with the worst record in the NBA, the Knicks were in prime position to land the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, and much like they did every night on the court, they fumbled the in-bounds pass, traveled, and turned the ball over. Now, the franchise has to figure out what their plan is going forward now that they know Zion Williamson isn’t coming there.
However, the team still has the #3 overall draft pick as well as a ton of cap space to sign anybody they want. The problem here is finding any top players they want to take money from them.
With emerging reports that Kyrie Irving might be headed to the Brooklyn Nets, the team had their sights on another top guard, but now that’s even looking sketchy.
Kemba Walker, who is set to hit free agency, is reportedly “unlikely” to join the Knicks this offseason, according to a recent report from SNY’s Ian Begley.
But some opposing execs monitoring Charlotte’s free agent situation believe, currently, that if Walker chose to sign somewhere outside of Charlotte, going to New York isn’t a likely outcome for the point guard, per SNY sources.
With the Warriors being down 3-1 to the Toronto Raptors — Knicks fans might have some hope that he leaves in free agency and come plays his remaining years in Madison Square Garden. There’s also the chance he might want to come back and prove that the team actually needs him to win a title, since they are currently struggling without him.
