REPORT: New York Knicks Ownership Wanted To Continue NBA Season With Fans Amid Coronavirus Scare

Just when you thought the New York Knicks couldn’t get any lower, they defy all odds and dig themselves six feet further into the ground.

Last night it was reported that the NBA would be suspending the 2019-20 NBA season after Utah Jazz superstar Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus.

Now, it is being revealed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that, while some teams were in favor of suspending the season for the time being, the rest of the league was hoping to continue the season with empty stadiums…

And then there’s the New York Knicks, who actually wanted to go about business as usual, with games carrying on and fans still in attendance.

Several teams were willing to put the games on hiatus, but the rest wanted to move toward eliminating fans from arenas to continue playing games, sources tell ESPN. One team wanted to keep status quo until a governmental/public mandate dictated change: The New York Knicks.

The Knicks weren’t the only team hoping for this type of decision. The Rockets and Pacers were also said to have preferred continuing the season with fans in attendance.

No word yet on what the NBA plans to do from here, but with Donovan Mitchell also testing positive for coronavirus, you’d have to think it could be some time before we see another NBA game being played.
