The NBA will be back on the NBC network starting next season. Bringing back the good old days, NBC has notched up a whopping $2.45 billion annual deal to acquire the broadcasting rights. Now, there is another caviar to the heavily hyped deal. Back in the 90s, NBC used John Tesh’s iconic ‘Roundball Rock’ while airing ‘The NBA on NBC.’ This song became such a fan favorite that it had its own SNL sketch back in 2013.
Now, with the basketball action returning to the NBA once again, the song was expected to make a comeback as well. Well, not necessarily! In a surprising twist of tales, NBC Sports still does not have the rights to feature the iconic song yet. While this might seem like a bit concerning for the fans, NBC sports have given their seal of reassurance.

The executives from NBC will be negotiating with John Tesh to acquire the rights once again. However, things are much more complicated than they seem in plain sight. Reports have it that Tesh is asking for an awful lot of money that NBC might not be willing to pay. And the worries do not stop here. The singer is perhaps on the lookout for a different label altogether!
John Tesh Is Looking For More Options As NBC Deal Hangs In The Balance
According to recent updates, Tesh has already re-recorded the theme song earlier this year in Nashville. The singer is also rumored to be on the lookout to licence his track to a different media company. With media giants like Amazon and Disney teaming up with the NBA this year, theoretically, Tesh does have some options at his disposal. However, both the companies are expected to be least interested in paying a hefty sum for the song.

Another major obstacle that Amazon has is its provision in the contract of making a new theme music for the upcoming season. Learning about tje restriction, Tesh has allegedly forwarded a couple of more themes in order to land a handsome deal. Unfortunately, no further information could be derived as all the interested parties have declined to comment on the issue.
