Some say flopping has ruined the game of basketball to some degree, and they are correct. But there is also another thing killing the game and fans as well as analysts have gotten extremely tired of seeing it every single game.
One of the most frustrating things to watch in the NBA is when a team gets out on a Fastbreak after coming away with a turnover, and instead of seeing a highlight, the opposing team commits a foul to stop the possession. It’s a complete momentum killer and takes some of the excitement away from the action.
The NBA transition “take foul” during games is inching closer to being penalized beginning with the upcoming 22-23 season, according to Chris Haynes.
The team on offense will be given one free throw and possession of the ball if the team on defense employs the take foul. The committee’s rule-change recommendations will be brought to the Board of Governors, where the BOG is expected to unanimously vote in favor of the change
The team on offense will also be allowed to choose which player shoots the free throw, similar to what the G League does with take fouls, according to Fred Katz.
Hopefully, things like this will go away forever.
