It appears that Russell Westbrook and the Clippers will be splitting up this offseason, and he is searching for better opportunities. Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints reports that Westbrook won’t be a member of the Clippers squad in the upcoming campaign. His motives for leaving are attributed to fresh opportunity and playing time.
Azarly stated, “League sources have told ClutchPoints that Westbrook is not expected to be in a Clippers uniform next season, with Russell reportedly looking at other options that would include opportunity and playing time.”
Azarly continued by saying that the Clippers are considering experienced point guards Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry. They both could step in for Westbrook if he decides to leave the team. However, Russell Westbrook found consistency challenging after James Harden joined the Clippers via a deal with the 76ers. Before then, he got along well with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers.
Although Westbrook is no longer a lock to win the MVP award every season, he has demonstrated that he can contribute to a competitive team. His tenacity and unwavering effort will be valuable assets for any team trying to bolster their lineup.
However, many of the same problems that plagued Harden and Westbrook when they were teammates on the Rockets eventually surfaced, and Ty Lue decided to start Harden rather than start Westbrook off the bench. Westbrook didn’t voice any complaints. But he undoubtedly wasn’t pleased with how the club had changed his role.
Several Teams Will Be in the Running for Russell Westbrook’s Contract
Any NBA club trying to strengthen its bench may end up with Westbrook. However, speculations about which teams are interested in signing him have not surfaced. There will surely be a market for the former MVP. Westbrook will be driven to demonstrate to the league that he is still a dependable player.

Westbrook could be a better fit in the Eastern Conference. Western Conference clubs will likely use his poor results with the Lakers and Clippers over the past several seasons as justification for not signing him. Russ would be a fantastic addition to the Heat since he better represents the team’s ‘Heat Culture’ of diligence than most players in the NBA.
Russell Westbrook had a respectable campaign with the Clippers this season. In 68 games, he averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. However, he wasn’t a pivotal member of the Clippers. He showed efficacy as an off-the-bench player and led the team’s second unit when the starters sat down.
