Several franchises are adapting to different strategies and assembling their teams to help them reach the ultimate goal of winning the championship trophy. The Milwaukee Bucks are one of them. They are reportedly approaching a defensive style that could potentially end their journey with their center, Brook Lopez.
As per The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, “There are rumblings that the Bucks would like to play a more versatile style of defense next season, which raises the question of whether Brook Lopez has a future there.”
Lopez has been with the Bucks since 2018 and has been a constant performer, averaging 12.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks this season.
HC Doc Rivers in February commented on Lopez and how the team should utilize his strengths and cover his weaknesses. Seems like the team is yet to find the formula to maximize the former NBA champion’s talents and a move away from Milwaukee could make a difference for both parties.
Will Bucks Trade Lopez to Lakers?
Brook Lopez signed a 2-year, $48 million deal with the Bucks last summer. Heading into his final season, this is the prime time to trade the 36-year-old to possible suitors, and the Lakers could be a prime landing spot for Lopez.
A reunion with the Lakers could boost the Los Angeles team’s defensive ranks. The Gold and Purple often struggled this season due to a lack of presence on the frontcourt. With Anthony Davis’ injuries, there weren’t many options who could physically impose themselves on the opponents. The 7’1″ center could be a welcome addition as a proper rim defender.

The move suits the Bucks as it can earn them some pieces to add depth to the side or ensure future draft picks. But without the Lakers HC issue resolved, things might get stretched in the summer if a potential deal is to be made.
