The Los Angeles Lakers have had a rocky start to the season despite the presence of superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. With currently holding a 22-18 record, the team’s inconsistency has cast doubt on their ability to make a deep playoff run. To address their struggles, James has urged the organization to take action before the NBA trade deadline on February 6.
NBA insider Jovan Buha has provided insight into the Lakers’ likely approach. Buha expects the team to take a conservative approach instead of going after a blockbuster trade.
“The sense around the league, when talking to rival scouts and front-office personnel, is that standing pat or making a half-measure trade (likely one or two second-round picks) is more likely than the Lakers going all-in and trading both of their future first-round picks that can be moved. That’s dependent, of course, on the available players, asking prices, and the team’s performance through the deadline,” Buha reported.
The Lakers are more likely to stand pat or make a “half-measure” trade rather than go all-in on a big move, per @jovanbuha

The Lakers recently made a move by trading D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers team in exchange got Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton. However, the changes have yet to yield significant results.
Los Angeles Lakers Eye Big Man Or Ball Handler As Trade Deadline Looms
Jovan Buha also noted that the Lakers may focus on acquiring a big man or another ball handler, particularly if Jarred Vanderbilt returns to full form. The report also highlighted the scarcity of affordable two-way wings in the team’s price range, which could limit their options.
“Around the league, the expectation is the Lakers will prioritize adding either a big or another ballhandler, assuming Vanderbilt’s return goes well and considering the lack of available two-way wings in Los Angeles’ price and asset range,” the report read.
