After playing four preseason games, the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to win just one game. This has raised concerns over LeBron James’ side’s performance in the 2024-25 season. After remaining silent in the free agency, many experts believe the Lakers will make some big moves before the trade deadline in February.
Among the big names, multiple reports pointed to one Chicago Bulls star as the top trade target for the Lakers. Recently, ClutchPoints’ Senior Lakers insider Anthony Irwin reported that Los Angeles and the Chicago Bulls could agree on a deal for Zach LaVine this year. The NBA insider claimed the trade talks “will almost assuredly pick up back” following the Bulls star’s comeback from the injury in the preseason.
Last season, the two-time NBA All-Star started on a high, scoring his career-high 51 points on October 28. However, LaVine’s injury in February ended his season with just 25 games. The Bulls star has played three of the four preseason games and recorded decent performances against the Memphis Grizzlies and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The report claimed that LaVine is an offensive upgrade over D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves. With the addition of the Bulls star, the Lakers could build a potential big three with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
What Is The Biggest Problem The Chicago Bulls Are Facing In Zach LaVine’s Trade?
The biggest issue in the 29-year-old’s trade appears to be his massive contract. He has three years remaining on his five-year, $215 million contract, making it difficult for the Bulls to negotiate with other teams. According to his contract, LaVine will earn an average of $46 million over the next three years.
Another NBA insider proposed a new blockbuster three-team trade deal involving the Lakers, Bulls, and New Orleans Pelicans. In the deal, the Lakers would get LaVine, making them instant championship contenders in the NBA 2024-25 season.
