While the front office deals with getting a head coach, LeBron is reportedly doing what he can to bring another elite player to the Lakers and give him a chance of getting another ring before he retires.
A recent report by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith noted that LeBron James “has quietly been about the business of trying to get Kawhi Leonard to come to the Los Angeles Lakers instead of the Los Angeles Clippers.”
Smith also claimed that Bron even went as far to Leonard in Philadelphia during the playoffs, per LeBron Wire.
Many experts believe that Leonard has already made his mind up on joining the Clippers, while others believe there’s still a strong chance he can stay with the Raptors if they reach the NBA Finals and show that championship potential.
Despite reports of Leonard’s interest in joining the Lakers, it was ESPN’s Michael C. Wright who stated Leonard didn’t want to team up with James back in 2018.
Adding Leonard would be more than enough to turn the Lakers into a contender, but given the circus atmosphere that surrounds the franchise, it is not likely that a quiet and reserved Kawhi would want to deal with all that outside nonsense.
