Teams pursuing Kawhi Leonard were reportedly warned not to leak anything. Kawhi is easily the most private superstar in the entire NBA.
Magic Johnson did not listen.
He’s gotten fined multiple times for tampering because he shares absolutely way too much, and that includes the time he went on National TV and aired out the Lakers’ dirty Laundry.
Even still, the Lakers embraced Johnson as a free-agent recruiter. He met with Kawhi Leonard before the actual team. Unfortunately for Magic and the Lakers, pretty much everybody heard about the meeting and what went on.
That was a huge issue for a person who was already skeptical about the franchise.

Kawhi could’ve very well made his decision before that meeting, but it still shows the drama and leaks that follow the Lakers that Kawhi likely wanted nothing to deal with.
