According to NBA analyst Shams Charania, Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty are in strong contention to reappear for another shootout challenge. During last year’s NBA All-Star Weekend, Curry and Ionescu faced off against each other. The duo went neck and neck, with the Warriors’ star prevailing in a close encounter.
This year, there is a possibility of yet another WNBA prospect getting involved in the mix. As per the news, Indiana Fever’s star Caitlin Clark is highly expected to join the spectacle. Clark and Ionescu will be teaming up against the Splash Brothers’ duo of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
Now, as for the NBA All-Star game, the authorities are exploring the opportunity of bringing in more format changes this year. The game, which is scheduled to take place at the Chase Center, will present itself in a new avatar.
As per the reports, the proposed format will consist of 4 teams. There will be three eight-player squads consisting of All-Stars along with a fourth team from the Rising Stars game. This team will be selected from the Friday game scheduled to take place during the All-Star weekend. According to the discussions, there was a need for “a fresh and creative path forward,” as per Shams Charania. “This quick-burst, four-team tourney among the game’s greatest players gained momentum among all parties, according to sources,” Charania added.
Earlier this month, Adam Silver, the NBA Commissioner, stated that there was a hint of dissatisfaction among the players about last year’s game. Thus, trying to work towards the best of athletes’ interest, the NBA wanted to ensure top notch competition and entertainment elements in their games. So with all the changes coming in, it remains to be seen how intriguing the new All-Star Game turns out.
