The next week or so might see one of the biggest players in the National Basketball Association take his talents from New Orleans to Los Angeles.
On Monday, Anthony Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, informed the Pelicans front office that his agent would not sign a supermax extension during the offseason and would like to be traded. The reports that followed stated that Davis and his agent would be informing everybody that is not the Lakers that he would not re-sign if they trade for him.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders the Lakers are prepared to make a “monster offer” in order to get Davis on the team.
Sources close to the situation are mirroring what’s being reported, that the Lakers are prepared to make a monster offer for Davis that could include anyone not named LeBron James.
The Lakers value a lot of their young guys and wouldn’t include everything they have in a deal for Davis, but there is a belief that the Pelicans could have their choice of three of the Lakers’ young guys to make a Davis deal before next Thursday.
The Lakers have been active in looking at options before the Davis trade request, but with the Pelicans now listening, the Lakers are not going to mess around according to sources close to the situation.
The problem for the Lakers is they can’t force the Pelicans to take a deal; they can only make an attractive offer.
That monster offer is expected to include the likes of younger players such as Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Ivica Zubac and Josh Hart. You can likely add a draft pick or two as well in this monster deal.

It should be noted that Davis is under contract for at least one more year, so they don’t have to pull the trigger on anything right now to appease any franchise.
