Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers failed to qualify for the postseason as well as the play-in game, and they are desperate to right the ship to not repeat what happened.
During an appearance with The Lowe Post podcast on Tuesday, league insider Jonathan Givony of ESPN suggested that the Lakers tried to rid themselves of Russell Westbrook by calling up the Pacers.
The deal involved Westbrook and Talen Horton-Tucker in a possible exchange for Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon.
Unfortunately for the Lakers — The Pacers shut that deal down.
“The Los Angeles Lakers offered Russell Westbrook, Talen Horton-Tucker and a 2026 first-round draft pick to the Indiana Pacers for Malcolm Brogdon, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported on The Lowe Post podcast.”
Brogdon would have been a more suitable fit than Westbrook alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but the Pacers have no use adding an aging Westbrook who has a terrible contract.

Westbrook is scheduled to earn $47.06 million on his player option in 2022-23.
In the 2021-22 season, Brogdon averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists on 44.8 percent shooting from the field.
