The Toronto Raptors ultimately felt Kawhi Leonard‘s adviser and uncle, Dennis Robertson, made ridiculous demands and unreasonable requests to the point they believed Kawhi was never serious about returning to the team.
The Los Angeles Lakers feel a certain type of way about the situation as well.
“I’ve heard complaints in the days after the signing. I heard complaints from the Lakers that they got played. I heard complaints from the Raptors that Kawhi came in and asked for the sun, the moon, the stars then left them at the altar.”
There were heavy rumors circulating that Kawhi knew all along he wasn’t signing with the Lakers, so he purposely waited until other free agents signed elsewhere before announcing he was going to the Clippers just to sabotage the Lakers.
If that actually happened, that would be so calculating, sinister, and downright hilarious. I mean, depending on where you stand with this entire situation.
There had been rumors going back to last season that Kawhi had no interest in playing alongside LeBron James, so nobody forced the Lakers to close up shop on signing players in hopes of landing Kawhi.
