The Brooklyn Nets once had it all when they signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. It appears they may lose at least one of them this offseason.
Irving is eligible to receive a max extension from the Nets, which would make him the seventh highest-paid player in the NBA at roughly $43 million a year. However, it does not appear that will be happening.
Kristin Winfield of the NY daily News dropped damning news that Irving requested and received permission from the Nets to find a sign-and-trade partner.

“Do you want to be a Brooklyn Net still?” Complex News’ Pierce Simpson asked.
“Pass it…pass it to my left,” Kyrie joked.
If Kyrie enters free agency, the superstar point guard has already carved out a list of preferred destinations. Of the teams on his wishlist, the Los Angeles Lakers seem to be the most intriguing. ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski says that if Irving decides to jet from Brooklyn in free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers are considered the ‘most significant threat’ to land the Nets star.
Kyrie left the Cavaliers in 2017 to join the Boston Celtics because he wanted to have a chance to lead his own team. It has not worked out in the years that followed.
Irving came to the Nets with Durant in 2019, hoping that the two would be a duo that could last well into the future. The team would soon add James Harden, but that fell apart as Durant couldn’t stay healthy and Irving couldn’t play home games due to a mandate in place.
His next decision could shake up the structure of the entire NBA.
