Initial discussions have made it clear to the Knicks that the price to obtain Donovan Mitchell from the Jazz is going to be incredibly high and they would have to part ways with a ton of draft capital as well as players.
However, the Knicks aren’t willing to part ways with one particular player in order to acquire Mitchell. Per SNY insider Ian Begley, the Knicks have shown “no interest” in parting ways with RJ Barrett.
The 22-year-old Barrett, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Duke, averaged a career-high 20 points in 70 games last season.
A potential Donovan Mitchell trade could be an “extended process” rather than an imminent event, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on NBA Today.
Utah is “talking throughout the league,” but there are not everyday negotiations going on involving the All-Star guard, according to Wojnarowski, who says the Jazz have “time on their side” due to Mitchell being signed through the 2025/26 season.
