For what seems like the 10th-straight offseason, the New York Knicks are putting all of their eggs in one basket and hoping to sign at least one superstar during the offseason to change the fortunes of their franchise.
Earlier this week, the team traded star player Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks after a meeting with the powers to be about the direction of the team didn’t go so well.
That trade led some rival NBA executives to believe the team has a level of certainty that it will sign Kevin Durant this summer, according to Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck.
“It means they’re pretty sure they’re getting KD,” one anonymous executive said.
With the trade of Porzingis and expiring contracts of Wes Matthews and DeAndre Jordan, the team could have upwards of $75 million in cap space that could land them 2 superstars.
Durant will be a much coveted player during the offseason should he opt out of the last year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent.
