Anthony Davis being traded to the Lakers pretty much blew social media to pieces when it was announced. So, what would happen if the NBA Finals MVP joined the team?
On Thursday, the Lakers created $32 million in salary cap space, which is enough for a max contract, by trading away Mo Wagner, Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones to the Washington Wizards as part of the Anthony Davis deal with New Orleans.
According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Kawhi is now “seriously considering” signing with the Lake Show despite all the rumors of Kawhi not wanting to join a super-team or play alongside LeBron.
It was Yahoo’s Chris Haynes who first reported that Kawhi would be meeting with both the Lakers and Clippers shortly after the Lakers opened up max contract cap space.
The 27-year-old 2-time NBA champ and 2-time NBA Finals MVP is eligible to sign a five-year, $190 million supermax contract with the Raptors, while others team can only offer a max of four-years, $140.6 million. During his 1st season with Toronto, Kawhi averaged 26.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in the regular season and led the team to their first ever NBA Title.
