According to Adrian Wojnarowski, an American sports columnist and ESPN NBA insider, Kawhi Leonard will get the 12th and final roster spot on Team USA for the 2024 Olympics.
The Team USA roster has not yet been formally announced, but it is expected that the following eleven players will be included:
- LeBron James (Lakers)
- Stephen Curry (Warriors)
- Kevin Durant (Suns)

- Anthony Davis (Lakers)
- Devin Booker (Suns)
- Anthony Edwards (Timberwolves)
- Jayson Tatum (Celtics)
- Jrue Holiday (Celtics)
- Bam Adebayo (Heat)
- Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers)
Leonard has been an obvious choice for the Olympics due to his excellent performance and reputation this season.
He has averaged 23.7 points per game, 6.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals while shooting a career-best 52.5 percent.
This year, Leonard is set to represent Team USA for the first time in his career. However, he has been experiencing knee soreness, which has kept him from playing since the Clippers’ victory over the Charlotte Hornets on March 31.
Leonard’s participation in the team will motivate Team USA
He missed the last eight regular-season games, and it is uncertain how he will be feeling come playoff time. However, Leonard’s willingness to compete in the Summer Olympics in 2024 may suggest that his knee condition isn’t as bad as it appears, which means that he will be available in the postseason.
The US national basketball team will be coached by Steve Kerr of the Warriors, and the Olympics will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, with twelve teams competing for the gold medal. His participation in the team will motivate Team USA to redeem itself after finishing fourth in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
