After NBA star Jimmy Butler chose not to sign a contract extension with the Miami Heat, many believed the six-time All-Star will leave the franchise in the 2025 summer. The Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets are among the first NBA franchises to show interest in acquiring Butler. However, a new report recently revealed the Miami Heat forward’s future intentions.
Jimmy Butler is in the last guaranteed year of his three-year, $146.4 million contract, which includes a player option for the 2025-26 season. While the Heat star could exercise his player option and sign a one-year, $58.6 million extension, he could opt out for a two-year, $112.9 million extension, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
While asked about the reason behind not signing an extension with Miami, Butler said, “Nah, I’m good. An extension is just a couple of dollars. I’m cool, I’m telling you. I think I’ve made enough, and I just want to play basketball… I plan on us winning a bunch of games and making everybody happy.”
ESPN Analyst Believes Jimmy Butler “Wants To Be In Miami”
On the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst discussed the 2015 Most Improved Player’s future with the Miami Heat. He said, “A few things on the Heat. One, as far as I know, I think Jimmy Butler wants to be in Miami. His goal is to get another contract from the Heat.”
The ESPN analyst also claimed that Butler didn’t opt for the player option as he is looking for a two-year contract extension. Windhorst said, “He also, I think, has a player option in his contract. Which, I think, his intention is to probably waive and become a free agent. But he still has that out there.”
For the 2024-25 season, Jimmy Butler has cleared his stance as he will be aiming for the championship with the Miami Heat. This season, the Heat will face the Orlando Magic on October 23, while they face the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday in their first preseason game.
