Herb Simon, chairman and owner of the Indiana Pacers Sports & Entertainment, was named Saturday to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2024 class, which also includes Jerry West, Chauncey Billups, and Vince Carter. On August 16–17, there will be celebrations in Springfield, Massachusetts, to honour Simon, the team owner with the longest stay in NBA history, with his induction into the hall.
Simon, a former NBA Board of Governors chair, has been considered “instrumental in every significant NBA and WNBA advancement over the past four decades,” according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
“As the longest-standing governor in NBA history, a founding member of the WNBA, and a former Chairman of the NBA Board of Governors, Herb Simon has been instrumental in every significant NBA and WNBA development over the past four decades. While Herb has never sought credit for his truly influential role, it is wonderful to see his steady leadership and service to the game of basketball recognized by the Hall of Fame” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s statement on Herb Simon’s induction to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

As an owner and team governor, Simon oversaw the NBA’s transformation into a global brand, its efforts to draw in new fans through imaginative thinking, and the expansion of basketball beyond the United States.
PS&E joined the WNBA as an expansion franchise in 2000, becoming one of its most successful teams. Simon’s commitment to women’s basketball has also helped the WNBA establish itself as the world’s leading women’s professional basketball league.

Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard also said a few words for Simon. He said that Simon cares about the sport, and he is the most deserving person for this recognition.
“For decades, Herb has been a model owner in the NBA, as well as one of its most respected voices, He cares deeply not only about our franchise but about the future of our sport and our League, and there is no one is more deserving of this amazing recognition,” said Kevin Pritchard.
Simon’s influence is seen by Indiana basketball fans far beyond the court.
