The Golden State Warriors have had a rough stretch lately, going 4-4 in their last eight games. Injuries to Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga, along with some inconsistent performances from Stephen Curry, have left the team struggling to find the rhythm. The NBA trade deadline is approaching next week, and the Warriors may need to make a roster move to strengthen their playoff push.
According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II, the Warriors have shown interest in trading for Zach LaVine. Reportedly, some within the organization believe the Chicago Bulls star’s scoring ability could be the missing piece for Golden State.
“There is some level of understanding and alignment from all levels of the Warriors organization that they lack a true second scorer next to Curry, and LaVine’s explosive three-level scoring would fill the roster’s largest void,” the report stated.
Zach LaVine as a potential trade target for Golden State is gaining some traction from some in the Warriors organization, per @anthonyVslater and @ThompsonScribe.

LaVine has been performing well this season, averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. His offensive firepower could help take some pressure off Curry and provide the Warriors with much-needed scoring depth.
Golden State Warriors Reportedly Prefer Zach LaVine Over Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler is obviously a proven veteran with over a decade of experience. Yet, reports suggest that the Warriors view Zach LaVine as a safer choice for their team. According to Anthony Slater, some within the Warriors organization believe LaVine is a better fit than Butler due to his age and contract situation.
“LaVine is viewed by some within the organization as the safer option. At 29, he’s five and a half years younger and some $6 million cheaper than Butler this season, though his contract extends longer, and he’s had some recent health concerns. There are risks all over the board,” the report read.

Despite LaVine’s recent injury concerns, his age and offensive skill set could make him a better long-term investment. However, his contract situation could be a factor in any potential deal. LaVine has a $49 million player option for the summer of 2026. It means any team that trades for him must be prepared for a long-term commitment.
