Jonathan Kuminga was playing perhaps the best basketball of his life this season. While the Golden State Warriors were banking on him heavily to solidify their position in the league, recent injury news has poured cold water on the thoughts. Playing against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, the Warriors picked up a victory.
Quite expectedly, Kuminga once again put up an impressive show. However, by the time the game ended, things went horribly wrong for the 22-year-old. In a recent evaluation of his situation, the Golden State Warriors had a somber announcement to make. If the reports are to be believed, Kuminga will be out of action for at least three weeks.
“The Warriors say Jonathan Kuminga’s MRI revealed a right ankle sprain and he’ll be re-evaluated in three weeks. Kuminga will miss at least the next 11 games now. His return will come right near the NBA trade deadline,” read a report from Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Arena.
Jonathan Kuminga will be re-evaluated in three weeks, I’m told. Sprained right ankle. Tough blow for Kuminga and the Warriors at a time he was surging. Rules him out of the next 11 games.

This will surely be a big blow for the Golden State Warriors. According to Anthony Slater from The Athletic, Kerr termed Kuminga’s absence ‘Brutal.’ The Warriors’ head coach also stated that Moses Moody and Kyle Anderson would be responsible for lifting the team up in his absence. Meanwhile, looking at his impressive form, Draymond Green wanted to help Kuminga settle in.
Draymond Green Agreed To Lend A Helping Hand Towards Jonathan Kuminga
Steve Kerr recently made Draymond Green come off the bench to focus more on Jonathan Kuminga. Surprisingly, Green had no problem adjusting to let Kuminga settle into the Warriors’ team. He was also eager to switch his position. This was because Green wanted to focus more on winning games rather than individual brilliance.
“But I love to win, and more importantly, I hate to lose. So if that’s what it looks like, that’s what it looks like. We got to win games, or I told the guys we’re all going to get traded out of here, so we better win some games,” Green said.

Draymond Green knows he’ll likely have to play more center than he’d like to fit Jonathan Kuminga in more lineups.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to play a ton of five. It’s hard…I don’t love it for entire games at this point. But I love to win.” pic.twitter.com/jC4DJcZ2rK
Thus, with things looking pretty much gloomy with the Warriors, it remains to be seen how they will perform in the future. Whether the absence of Jonathan Kuminga will prove to be a significant factor is for the future to determine.
