Ahead of the NBA 2024-25 season, many blockbuster trades happened in the league, including the departure of Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors after 13 years. In the offseason, the Warriors replaced Stephen Curry’s ’Splash Brother’ with Buddy Hield. With the trade deadline in February, a new report suggests that Steve Kerr’s side could make ‘significant trades.’
Apart from Buddy Hield, the San Francisco-based franchise acquired Kyle Anderson from the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a six-team trade deal. While many believed the Warriors could make trades during the season, some analysts discussed a blockbuster trade proposal to form a ‘Big Three’ with Curry and Draymond Green.
The Athletic’s Anthony Slater recently reported that the Warriors could build a better roster around Stephen Curry. He mentioned the assets Golden State has to secure a decent agreement. Slater said, “They have the first-rounders, flexible contracts, and young talent to get a deal done. They say they’ll be aggressive. Curry will exert some polite leverage if he knows there is an upgrade out there that is reasonably available.”
NBA Insider Calls Jonathan Kuminga “Appealing Trade Piece” For Golden State Warriors
The Athletic’s NBA insider called Warriors forward Kuminga their biggest asset in trade talks. Many believe the 22-year-old is a contender for the Most Improved Player award. If a contract extension is not agreed upon, the Warriors youngster will become a restricted free agent in 2025.
Slater added, “Another aspect to watch is Jonathan Kuminga’s contract talks. If he extends in October, collective bargaining agreement rules make him nearly impossible to trade until next summer. If he doesn’t (my current guess), he remains an obvious and appealing trade piece.”
With the 2024-25 regular season approaching, the Warriors will rely heavily on their star players, Curry and Green. The Warriors roster boasts some talented youngsters, including Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and De’Anthony Melton.
