According to a recent post by Shams Charania, NBA insider and analyst of the Athletics, on his social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter), For the remainder of the season, Usman Garuba, a two-way center, will be signed to a standard NBA contract by the Golden State Warriors.
“The Golden State Warriors are planning to convert two-way center Usman Garuba to a standard NBA deal for the rest of the season; Garuba will fill the Warriors’ final roster spot and is playoff-eligible.” Shams Charania wrote this in his post.
Garuba, who is eligible to play in the playoffs, has been selected to fill the final roster spot for the Golden State Warriors. Although he hasn’t played for more than three minutes in any NBA game this season, the two-way center is expected to provide depth to the team’s frontcourt. Garuba has only played in five NBA games for the Warriors this season, averaging 2.4 minutes per game.
However, he did score two points in a 110-118 victory against the Utah Jazz on April 8. He has received numerous opportunities to play for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G-League club, where he is currently averaging 12.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2 assists per game.
With Garuba’s standard contract, the Warriors will have a full 15-man roster
Garuba spent two seasons with the Houston Rockets before being traded in a five-team deal that brought Dillon Brooks to the team. After being routed from Atlanta to them, he was waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder before the start of the current season.
Despite signing a two-year contract with the Warriors, Garuba hasn’t played much this season, tallying only two points and three boards in just 12 minutes spanning five games. With Garuba’s standard contract, the Warriors will have a full 15-man roster. Additionally, Jerome Robinson and Pat Spencer have two-way contracts with the team.
