Killian Hayes kicked off his NBA career as the first-round draft pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. Unfortunately, the Pistons lost faith in him and let him go midway through last season. As the former Pistons star remains without an NBA home, the Brooklyn Nets are seizing the opportunity to assess his potential and possibly add him to their roster.
According to Erik Slater, the Nets attended a workout in Las Vegas today to evaluate Hayes. This move aligns with the Nets’ current rebuilding phase, following a season in which they missed the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2018.
Before releasing him, the Pistons were actively seeking to trade their young star. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find any takers for Hayes.
Given the uncertain market for Hayes, the Brooklyn Nets might be able to sign him for a relatively inexpensive deal. While the results of the workout remain unknown, it seems the young star might be on the verge of receiving a second chance in the NBA.
Killian Hayes’ Performance With the Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons had high hopes for Killian Hayes when they selected him in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft, even considering his athleticism superior to that of Tyrese Haliburton and Tyrese Maxey. However, Hayes has failed to meet their expectations since donning the Pistons jersey.
Last season, Hayes averaged 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists, playing an average of 24 minutes per game. Over his four-year career with the Pistons, the 22-year-old star managed an average of 8.1 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Hayes’ poor shooting performance disappointed fans and the team. He shot just 38.2% from the field and 27.7% from beyond the arc in 210 regular-season games, causing many to lose hope in his future with the Pistons.
