With the new Luxury Tax and Second Apron limitations in the revised CBA, the most recent NBA off-season transactions and signings are falling under different rules. Because of these difficulties, the Denver Nuggets are having trouble forming their roster for next season.
In addition to losing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to free agency in the first-round selection in 2024, they also missed DaRon Holmes II from the roster due to his surgery. Now, to completely revamp their squad dynamics, the Nuggets aimed for a massive trade earlier in the offseason.
Jake Fischer from Yahoo Sports confirmed an earlier report that the Nuggets were interested in trading for Paul George this summer. Paul George had decided not to continue with the Clippers. Instead, he chose to become a free agent and ultimately signed a max contract with the 76ers. At this point, the Nuggets considered trading Michael Porter Jr. for Paul George in a scenario where George would opt into a trade agreement.
On July 15, Fischer reported, “Michael Porter Jr.’s big payday in Denver might not have been as big under this new CBA. While Porter helped the Nuggets clinch the 2023 championship, Denver already was flirting with the concept of including Porter in a trade to land Paul George this summer, sources said, although his cap number likely would have been too daunting for the CBA-conscious Clippers to have truly considered if George had opted in to be traded.”
But the Clippers wouldn’t have agreed to this. They may prioritize keeping their options open for building their team in the future. Whatever unfolds next will be interesting to see.

Now that he’s absent, the team management is having a tough time finding a suitable replacement. Unfortunately, there’s no clear timeline for Holmes’ return, which is a significant setback.
