Denver Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is set to enter unrestricted free agency after reportedly declining his player option. Despite this, the Nuggets, who are reportedly interested in Gordon Hayward, appear reluctant to trade him.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in acquiring Caldwell-Pope. However, Denver may not be open to facilitating a sign-and-trade deal.
“League sources say that there would be mutual interest in free agency between Caldwell-Pope and the Dallas Mavericks, but Dallas could only get into Caldwell-Pope’s projected salary range via sign-and-trade. It is believed that the Nuggets do not want to participate in a sign-and-trade with an in-conference rivall—Dallas just supplanted Denver as the NBA’s reigning Western Conference championn—even if that means losing Caldwell-Pope without compensation,” the report stated.
Apart from the Mavs, speculation is already swirling that the Philadelphia 76ers are among the teams eyeing Caldwell-Pope, given their ample cap space and interest in bolstering their roster.
