After spending 33 years together, NBA star Steph Curry’s parents Sonya Curry and Dell Curry are ending their marriage.
Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors will face off against the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night. In previous NBA Finals appearances, we had all become accustomed to see Curry’s parents — Dell and Sonya — sitting together in the stands cheering on their eldest son together.
Last summer, Dell and Sonya Curry announced they were getting divorced after 30 years of marriage.
“We are so thankful for all the many blessings and successes! We stay committed to and supportive of our children and grandchildren and will remain on connected paths. We ask that our privacy be respected and prayer for our family as we move forward,” they said in a joint statement.
According to USA TODAY, both Dell and Sonya made allegations of infidelity in their divorce decision.
Steven Johnson, a tight end who was drafted by the New England Patriots in 1988, made headlines in 2021 for his involvement with Sonya Curry. Sonya claimed that Dell cheated on her with multiple women during the marriage and Dell accused her of having an affair with Johnson.
In court documents, Dell said Sonya “began her extramarital affair with Mr. Johnson during the marriage and prior to the date of separation, and she lied to [Dell] each time she cheated on him.” Dell said she was living with Johnson in Tennessee and that she shouldn’t be entitled to alimony because of it. Sonya denied those claims.

Curry addressed the situation earlier this year.
“I could be mad and be like, ‘Y’all effed this up.’ I could have that approach,” he told The Ringer. “But it’s going to be an acknowledgment of both of y’all in terms of how y’all raised me. The calmness I have in myself is because of y’all.”
The Golden State Warriors superstar is in search of his fourth NBA title and first NBA Finals MVP award.
