Ben Simmons was once considered one of the best players in the NBA during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, since joining the Brooklyn Nets, his career has been marred by injuries and inconsistent performances. As a result, speculation about his future with the team continues to grow.
Currently, the Nets reportedly have no interest in buying out Simmons’ contract. However, a recent report from Brett Siegel suggests that Simmons could potentially initiate discussions with the team regarding a buyout to join a playoff contender.
“There has been some talk amongst teams that Ben Simmons will approach the Brooklyn Nets for a buyout to join a playoff-contending team. League sources told ClutchPoints around the holiday season that the Nets were not interested in a buyout with Simmons. It seems like this situation will come down to whether Simmons approaches the team about one, something that has yet to be discussed between the two parties,” Siegel reported.

Simmons will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 NBA season. If he chooses to stay, Brooklyn will need to decide whether to keep him as part of their long-term plans or explore trade options before his contract runs out.
Cavaliers Could Target Ben Simmons Or Lonzo Ball For Defensive Depth
The Cleveland Cavaliers may be in the market for a defensive-minded perimeter guard. Two notable names have surfaced as potential buyout candidates. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst specifically mentioned Brooklyn Nets’ Ben Simmons and Chicago Bulls’ Lonzo Ball as players who fit that description.
“Two guys who could be bought out, that fit that bill, are Lonzo Ball and Ben Simmons,” Windhorst said.

Simmons has been unavailable for the most part in back-to-back games due to injury. During this season, he has played in 31 of the Nets’ 48 games. The Nets star is averaging 6.4 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game. While his offensive production has declined, his defensive versatility and playmaking ability remain valuable assets for any team considering to add him.
