“Sheppard is going to play point guard in the NBA, and he’s played some of that position with Kentucky. What will translate is his shooting and that he’s an extremely smart basketball player. He does a good job off the ball in terms of shooting the gaps and getting steals. He’s got really quick hands. Now, he doesn’t move his feet well laterally, so he may struggle there. He’s not a bad passer, either. He could be a backup point guard type of player,” an NBA executive told HoopsHype.
Defensively, Sheppard may face challenges as he gives up too many driving angles. At 6-foot-3 and 182 pounds, his relative lack of strength and limited size could make securing defensive positions difficult.
Sheppard’s offensive stats are impressive, recording 65% at the rim in 60 attempts and 45.8% on non-rim twos in 59 attempts. His excellent hand-eye coordination also allows him to generate numerous steals. He could benefit from learning from a veteran player to develop his skills as a role player.

Though Reed Sheppard is not a big name like Alex Sarr or Zaccharie Risacher, he is poised to be a lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft due to his impressive athleticism and basketball skills. His all-around performance makes him a highly sought-after prospect for several NBA teams.

Sheppard averaged 12.5 points in 28.9 minutes per game last season, shooting 53.6 percent from the field. The young star has also recorded 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.7 blocks, and 2.5 steals.
He seems to be an excellent fit for the San Antonio Spurs, who could benefit from his talents. The Houston Rockets are also in the mix, as they could use an intense three-point shooter without breaking the bank.
Sheppard’s shooting prowess makes him an attractive option for the team. The Memphis Grizzlies might also be interested, especially if they need to replace Luke Kennard. Kennard will become a free agent soon. If they want Sheppard, they must make a move with their 9th pick.
