Canadians are trying to make amends.
When Kevin Durant went down with an injury Achilles injury during Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, some Toronto Raptors supporters were seen cheering and waving goodbye before players on the team forced them to stop and change their tune.
There has been terrible video after terrible video coming out of Toronto of Raptors fans behaving badly. That caused one fan to make amends by encouraging others to donate to Durant’s charity.
A GoFundMe campaign was created on Tuesday to help raise money for Kevin Durant’s Charity Foundation, which helps at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletics, and social programs.
“On behalf of the level-headed and true fans of Raptor Nation – from Toronto to Vancouver to Iqaluit to St. John’s, and any fans living outside Canada: we wanted to say ‘sorry,'” Hamzah Moin, who created the GoFundMe, wrote. “We’re sorry that some fans of Raptor Nation at the Scotiabank Arena, Jurassic Park, and in some bars/restaurants showing the game, displayed an ugly side of fandom when they cheered on the injury of Kevin Durant.
“This isn’t cool. This isn’t right. This isn’t what I expect from fellow Canadians.”
As of right now, the fundraiser has garnered well over $3,500.

“Join me in sending our well-wishes to KD as he recovers. He’s put his blood, sweat and tears in this beautiful sport. Let’s give back to something he’s passionate about – helping to enrich the lives of at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletic and social programs through the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation.”
Raptors fans have also created SorryKD.com, which is another avenue to get fans to donate to KD’s foundation.
