Last season, the Indiana Pacers averaged an absurd 121.6 PPG over 82 games. While it remains to be seen if any team can replicate that kind of success, with how the league is trending right now, it’s hard to bet against it. The NBA offense, indeed, has come a long way over the years, especially after teams put a premium on the three-point line.
However, several factors determine how to judge a team’s offense. Points per game are just a minuscule part of it. Teams can score many points because they might play an uptempo style compared to others, but their efficiency and overall field goal percentages might rank near the bottom of the rankings. It’s a multi-layered thing full of different statistics and criteria.
Today, we’ll rank all 30 NBA teams’ offenses from worst to first for the 2024-2025 season.
Find out who the best teams in the NBA are when it comes to offense.
30. Brooklyn Nets
With Mikal Bridges gone, expect that Brooklyn’s offensive woes will deepen this season. There’s little faith that Cameron Johnson is ready for a primetime role for this team. While Cam Thomas is nice, he does not do anything else on the court except for scoring. They will get their points, but this will be a long season for Nets fans.
29. Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers usually struggle with offensive efficiency. This is quite baffling, though, because they seemingly have good enough pieces—especially their starting five—to compete day in and day out.

28. Detroit Pistons
Can Tobias Harris mitigate the abysmal offense for this once-proud NBA franchise? For context, Harris – a free agent this summer – surprisingly signed with the rebuilding Pistons rather than latch on to a contender. Maybe Harris can help them, but don’t get your hopes too high just yet.
27. Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte’s numbers last year were near the bottom of the list due to the absence of LaMelo Ball. He is a huge part of what they do, and whenever he’s out, their offense suffers immensely. While they do have the weapons to average a ton of points, it remains to be seen if they can stay healthy throughout an entire season as a group.
26. Los Angeles Clippers
With Kawhi Leonard out indefinitely, the Clippers are bound to struggle on their offense this year. They now have to rely on a rapidly declining James Harden to spearhead their campaign. But hey, at least they finally don’t have to share an arena with the Lakers anymore.
25. Miami Heat
The Heat aren’t entirely known for their offense. In the last couple of seasons, they only averaged 109.1 points per game and ranked near the bottom of the list. They play at a slower pace compared to other teams in the league. Coach Spoelstra believes in ball movement rather than isolation plays.

24. Orlando Magic
It’s surprising that a young team like the Magic doesn’t put a ton of numbers on the scoreboard each night. One factor is that they lack a lights-out shooter on their roster. Even with the addition of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, they’d be hard-pressed to score more than 115 points per game this year. However, it’s not a disadvantage for them as they know how to play at a slower pace and be efficient scorers from inside the arc.
23. Washington Wizards
Even though the Wizards probably won’t make it to the postseason, expect them to push the tempo and score a lot on a nightly basis. They have a good amount of young guys on the roster who want to run and play fast. While their offense might be good enough to compete against other NBA teams, their defense leaves a lot less to be desired.
22. Toronto Raptors
The Raptors have the pieces to play an up-tempo offense this season with the expected improvement of their young cast. Scottie Barnes is on his way to becoming one of the best two-way players in the league, and Gradey D has shown vast improvement with his shot selection during preseason games.
21. Memphis Grizzlies
A season ago, the Grizzlies were dead last in the NBA offense category. Who could blame them, though? Ja Morant missed most of the regular season, and a handful of key players on the team missed time due to injuries. With a potentially healthy roster for the 2024-2025 season, don’t be surprised if this team might become contenders again.
20. Cleveland Cavaliers
Due to this team’s positional redundancy, the Cavs’ offense is limited in terms of its potential. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen don’t generate much offense outside the painted area. Only Garland, Mitchell, and Strus can shoot the three-ball decently.
19. Chicago Bulls
Without DeMar DeRozan, Chicago’s offense will take a hit for the 2024-2025 NBA season. He was their go-to scorer whenever their offense stagnated in recent years. Zach LaVine is their main guy right now, but he has had some trouble with consistency in the past. The only good thing going on for them is that they have a good number of shooters on their roster.
18. Utah Jazz
Even though the Jazz may come up short with their playoff aspirations this year, you can still count on them to score the ball at a high rate. They are efficient at that, too. It’s the other side of the floor where they are getting some trouble at the moment.
17. Atlanta Hawks
Trae Young will be given the green light to carry this team however he sees fit. His numbers will be inflated to the brim, though, and that’s not his fault. Under Young’s reign, the Hawks are at the middle of the pack when it comes to NBA offense. Unless they enter a full rebuild, this is their usual spot in the rankings.
16. San Antonio Spurs
With the addition of Chris Paul, the Spurs’ offensive schemes could be fluid this season. Even at 39 years old, he is poised to make a difference in this due to his leadership on and off the court. Victor Wembanyama will have his plate full as he is widely expected to lead this team on both ends of the floor.
15. New Orleans Pelicans
Dejounte Murray’s arrival should provide a boost for the Pelicans on the offensive side of the floor. CJ McCollum will have the freedom to let the ball fly, and Zion Williamson will now have two guards who can feed him the ball in his favorite spots near the basket.
14. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves pride themselves on defense, and it’s not surprising that they did not make it to the top 10 in this one. Their offense is largely dependent on the skills of Anthony Edwards, especially with Karl-Anthony Towns getting shipped to the Knicks before training camp. Can Naz Reid and Julius Randle share minutes at the power forward spot without compromising their team’s goal to win a title?
13. Los Angeles Lakers
This might be a bit too high for the Lakers, but when we take a closer look at it, new head coach JJ Redick might want them to play according to their strengths as a team. Their new offense under Redick is free-flowing and no longer requires LeBron to do much of the heavy lifting.
12. Philadelphia 76ers
Paul George’s addition should be a guaranteed boost for this team as long as he stays healthy on the court. Tyrese Maxey has evolved into one of the most exciting young guards in the league today due to his scoring outbursts and clutch plays. Now, they just need Joel Embiid to play like an MVP again.
11. Golden State Warriors
Even with Klay Thompson’s departure this summer, the Warriors are still capable of running up the scoreboard due to their offense’s structure over the years. They run multiple screens to get their shooters free, and if that doesn’t work out, they’ll attack the basket to set up a wide-open player on the corner. Steph Curry and Draymond Green are the masters of this craft.
10. Houston Rockets
People are expecting big things from the Rockets this season. Even though their roster has remained intact, it’s about the personal growth of their players rather than adding additional talent via free agency or trade in the offseason. Alperen Sengun might just become one of the names to watch this year.
9. New York Knicks
Coach Thibodeau-led teams aren’t generally known for their offense, but that might change this year. This Knicks team is as loaded as it gets when we look at their starting five. Heck, they might go toe-to-toe against the Celtics in a seven-game series.
8. Sacramento Kings
The Kings are perhaps one of just two teams in the NBA whose center dictates their offensive schemes. Domantas Sabonis does a great job at it, too. He can score, rebound, and make some timely passes off the pick-and-roll. It only gets potent now that DeMar DeRozan is added to the mix.
7. Milwaukee Bucks
Regardless of how coach Doc Rivers wants to run things, the Bucks will be one of the most potent teams on offense in the NBA due to the presence of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokoumpo. Whenever those two click, their potential as a team is limitless.
6. Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets heavily rely on Nikola Jokic’s plethora of skills to run this team however he sees fit. They don’t aim to outrun anybody in the NBA with their offense, but they are efficient at what they do, and that’s to get the ball to the cutters or shooters beyond the arc.
5. Phoenix Suns
Any team with the trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal should be able to outscore anybody in the league, right? While that’s not the reality the Suns have for now, they surely can put up a lot of points when needed when their stars are clicking on the basketball court.
4. Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have proven that both of them can share the ball and score at will whenever their team needs a boost on the offensive side on an NBA court. They currently remain the best backcourt duo in the league. Should they continue their trajectory, this Mavs team has the chance to represent the West again in the Finals.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the rest of this young OKC squad are a fun group to watch. While SGA remains their go-to scorer, both Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are capable of putting up points for the team when needed. The Western Conference should be on the lookout for this team’s rise this season.
2. Indiana Pacers
The Pacers scored a whopping 121.6 points per game last season. They even got better after trading for Pascal Siakam from the Raptors. The team is full of energy, and everybody loves to run the floor. Head coach Rick Carlisle has been instrumental in making this team jump a couple of notches from nobodies to plausible contenders in the NBA.
1. Boston Celtics
The Celtics are the most efficient NBA team when it comes to offense. They ranked 4th in points per game but first on offensive efficiency in the league last season. Not only do they score a lot, but they are good at maximizing every opportunity to put points on the board, too. They don’t force things on offense, which is a good indicator of a team that is in contention for a title on a yearly basis.
