NBA offense is a blend of teamwork, strategy, precision, and entertainment. It is one of the most amazing aspects of professional basketball. It’s a testament to the skill and creativity of the NBA players who grace the hardwood, and it continues to evolve, thrilling fans with each passing season and it’s evolution.
Each player on the court has a role. Point guards are often tasked to orchestrate the plays, the sharpshooter will spread the floor, or the big man has to do his job which is to dominate the paint. This collaborative effort creates opportunities for scoring that are both thrilling and unpredictable.
With the three-point line becoming an emphasis in today’s era, NBA offenses are much more fun to watch in the eyes of the fans. In today’s list, we will rank all 30 NBA offenses for the 2023-2024 season.
30. Detroit Pistons
The Pistons are young and will inevitably commit a lot of mistakes next season. If last season’s performance was an indication, with an offensive rating of 109.9, they will inevitably suffer again even with a new coach at the helm.
29. Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte’s offense was abysmal last season as they only had an offensive rating of 108.4 per 100 possessions. The team’s offense had to step back due to LaMelo Ball sitting out most of last year due to injuries. If he’s healthy, then maybe they could jump a couple of spots in this list.

28. Washington Wizards
They finally entered the rebuilding phase, but can still score with the best of them, especially with Jordan Poole in town. Washington scored 113.3 PPG as a team last year and that number could be somewhat similar next season.
27. San Antonio Spurs
Even with French phenom Victor Wembanyama’s arrival, this team still lacks the offensive power to compete nightly against the best. Expect a little bump with their scoring next season, but nothing significant to make them a threat.
26. Toronto Raptors
The Raptors lost crowd favorite Fred VanVleet this offseason and that will be a major hit on their offense. They were 13th in PPG last year and it will be a tall task to replicate that success.
25. Chicago Bulls
It’s baffling that the trio of Lavine, DeRozan and Vucevic only managed to have an offensive rating of 112.8 last season. With no significant changes made during this year’s free agency, expect this team to struggle again on the offensive end.
24. Orlando Magic
Orlando is on the rise due to the emergence of their young core. They like to run on offense. Expect that their offensive rating will jump a few notches next season with Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero leading the way.
23. Miami Heat
Miami plays a slower pace on offense as they only scored 112.3 PPG last year. But make no mistake as they are vicious pests on the defensive end. Coach Spo’s offensive sets won’t outscore most teams, but they do more than enough to win games and remain contenders on a yearly basis.
22. Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers heavily relied on George and Leonard in the scoring department, but those two were rarely on the floor together because of injuries and load management. They need to score more as a unit in order to make some serious noise next season.
21. Houston Rockets
The young Rockets are high on this list because there’s optimism that their new coach, Ime Udoka, can unlock the potentials of Green and Sengun next season. If all goes well, a play-in spot could be a realistic goal.
20. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Towns-Gobert pairing had minimal success last season and coach Finch will have his hands full figuring out how to utilize them better. Their offense will heavily rely on Anthony Edwards’ expected leap next year.
19. Portland Trail Blazers
With Lillard’s gone, rookie Scoot Henderson will likely put up crazy numbers for the Blazers next season. Their offense won’t take much of a hit as they are accustomed to putting up crazy numbers on a nightly basis.
18. Cleveland Cavaliers
JB Bickerstaff is a good defensive coach and has always preached for crisp passes to find the open man on offense. It’s a good balance for the team and they will also get a fully healthy Garland back.
17. Brooklyn Nets
Mikal Bridges’ emergence last season was a revelation to the Nets. He’s established himself as one of the best two-way players in the league in such a short time. Brooklyn will definitely top the 113.4 PPG they put up last season.
16. New Orleans Pelicans
Suffering from Zion’s absence last season, the Pelicans often struggled offensively against more experienced teams. Williamson is expected to be in his best form professionally and that bodes well for the Pelicans next season.
15. Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs’ offense is fairly predictable. It’s either Luka or Irving facilitating it on the floor. While that may look like their Achilles heel, it’s important to know that both of them are considered as top 10 players in the league right now.
14. Indiana Pacers
Carlisle is one of the brightest minds in basketball and there’s no doubt that the Pacers will continue their ascension in the future. They scored a whopping 116.3 PPG last season despite their core being young.
13. Denver Nuggets
Even though they are the NBA champions, Denver isn’t really known for their offensive prowess. But a quick look at them and you’ll understand why they are a threat to repeat next season. Jokic is still in the middle of his prime years and Denver is banking on his rise for the foreseeable future.
12. New York Knicks
This team is expected to score a lot next season due to the emergence of Brunson and Randle. It’s a remarkable feat as coach This is more known as a defensive guru among NBA circles.
11. Atlanta Hawks
It’s hard to imagine that Atlanta could replicate their 118.4 PPG last season but coach Snyder is an offensive genius and he could realistically unlock the potential of Young and Murray with a full training camp under his wing.
10. Milwaukee Bucks
With the addition of Lillard and a coaching change, this will be fun to watch. Giannis will continue to dominate their opposition as usual. Their 116.9 PPG was 8th in the league last year.
9. Memphis Grizzlies
With Ja Morant back in the fold, the Grizzlies are poised to take a huge leap next season. Acquiring Marcus Smart via trade was a golden move by their front office.
8. Philadelphia 76ers
Harden’s recent trade demands may hinder Philadelphia’s offense if he’s dealt, but not much when you look at it closely. Maxey will continue with his ascension and could realistically be Embiid’s running mate for a long time.
7. Utah Jazz
The Jazz love to run and score. They averaged 117.1 PPG last year with an offensive rating of 115.3. What they need is an identity on the defensive end to sustain their success.
6. Oklahoma City Thunder
The young Thunder were one of the biggest surprises last season. The emergence of Shai and Giddey hastened their rise as a team. With Chet Holgrem finally healthy, they are a team to watch out for next season. This team’s offensive numbers will be crazy good.
5. Boston Celtics
Now that Smart is gone, everybody will anticipate that Boston will shoot the lights out with the trio of Tatum, Brown and Porzingis. Acquiring Porzingis is a fairly underrated move as many pundits think that this will pay off come playoff time in 2024.
4. Los Angeles Lakers
Pelinka has made some significant moves this offseason which could potentially make the Lakers the highest scorers next season. The roster is a good mix between veterans and young guns. We really don’t expect LeBron to lose a step or two, do we?
3. Golden State Warriors
The Warriors lost Poole but now have Chris Paul on the roster. It’s hard to predict what their offense might look like with Curry and Paul sharing the ball but if they could make it work, then the league is in for a ride. Imagine Paul running the point with Steph and Klay getting free looks all day. Watch out.
2. Sacramento Kings
Sacramento made an unexpected playoff appearance last year due to their high-octane offense under coach Brown. They scored a league-best 120.7 PPG. The duo of Fox and Sabonis will continue to be better and we can all expect for a deeper run in next year’s playoffs.
1. Phoenix Suns
The Suns now have Beal, Booker, Durant and Ayton in their lineup. Three of those names are bonafide superstars and talented scorers in the league. While sharing the ball might bring up some obstacles, they are just too good for all this to fail. A championship may be premature to bestow upon them, but if they’ll make it work, there’s no doubt they could outscore any team on a nightly basis.
