On Thursday night, the Dallas Mavericks punched their ticket to the NBA Finals with a dominant 103-124 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. During the celebrations in the locker room, PJ Washington did a live on Instagram and his message since then has gone viral.
The forward was seen saying “From the bottom to the top,” and also panned the camera towards Daniel Gafford, with the former agreeing.
While the seemingly harmless expression of achievement from scratch might seem inspiring, there’s a different layer to it. PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford were trade deadline signings for the Mavs in February earlier this year. Washington came from the Hornets, who finished 13th in the Eastern Conference table, and Gafford’s former side, the Wizards, finished a place below.
Their celebration had a subtle hint of dig toward their former employers as they went from bottom to top in just a matter of months.
Though that wasn’t the only thing, the keen-eyed NBA fans spotted.
NBA Star Reps PJ Washington Trade Move
While the celebration of bagging the ECF trophy and confirming a date in the NBA Finals continued, Heat star Tyler Herro made a special appearance in PJ Washington’s IG live comment section.

Commenting on the stream, Herro wrote, “How you go from Charlotte to the finals, you really made it out the mud with this one.”
The hilarious comment hit social media like a storm, but the Hornets fans will be far from happy with Herro’s comment, who might find it out the next time he visits Charlotte.
Since joining the Mavs, PJ Washington has been producing on both sides of the court, with 11.7 points per game in the 29 regular-season games he played for his new franchise. His rebounding has also been an asset for the Mavs, leading to praise from the team’s ace, Luka Doncic. With the NBA Finals starting next Thursday, PJ Washington will surely hope the party can continue after vanquishing the Celtics.
