Anthony Davis had another terrific season alongside LeBron James, but the LA Lakers couldn’t make the most of it. Even after the duo’s efforts, they couldn’t survive the playoffs against the mighty Denver Nuggets. Following their early exit, the offensive center kept working on himself to show up in better form the next season. To make the most of his off-season break, the 2020 champion landed in one of the training camps led by a superstar trainer.
Davis was spotted dedicating his time to the Mamba Sports Academy on Friday. Ex-Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy organizes the 94ftOfGame camp.
This is the same Handy who is widely known for helping train legendary figures like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. During his time with the Lakers, Davis was also trained by Handy and won the NBA Championship in 2020. Now that Davis has joined the club, some polished moves can be expected from him next.
The Lakers are planning to adopt a different strategy now with recruits, which could help them bring back the championship. Davis, an integral part of it, has new duties to perform in the upcoming season.
Anthony Davis Set for Bigger Role in Lakers Set-Up
Anthony Davis has been a polarizing player among Lakers fans. Despite his consistent brilliance on the court, his stop-start injuries hamper his rhythm and, in turn, the Lakers. But the big man is set for a new role under the new head coach, JJ Redick.
During his introductory press conference, Redick disclosed that AD would be the “Hub” of the team. That means he’d be the focal point of everything the Lakers will do. The idea is inspired by Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets and Domantas Sabonis of the Kings. Their rim protection and presence at both ends of the court rack up numbers for their respective teams, and that’s something JJ Redick is looking to implement.

But for Davis, the immediate focus is on the USAB men’s team, which will start preparation camp next week. He’ll have more time with LeBron during his Paris outing, and that can only be good news for the Lakers going into next season.
