According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, there are rumors spreading that the Phoenix Suns will make a trade proposal to swap their star player, Kevin Durant, for Devin Booker’s former teammate, Karl-Anthony Towns. Buckley praised Durant for his defensive and shot-creation abilities. He also mentioned that Anthony Edwards, who previously stated that Durant is his favorite player of all time, would not mind playing alongside Durant.
“Would Minnesota opt for the challenge trade route? Durant is even more expensive now, but he wouldn’t carry the same long-term costs. He’s also far more proven on basketball’s biggest stage, not to mention more versatile on defense and better equipped to handle shot-creation duties. And it’s hard to imagine soaring Wolves star Anthony Edwards would mind suiting up alongside his “favorite player of all time.” Buckley wrote in his latest article.
The Suns are Struggling with the Durant-Devin Booker-Bradley Beal Trio
Buckley further mentioned that the Suns are stuck between their trio, which includes Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. However, the Suns’ general manager, James Jones, previously stated that they will not break up their best trio.
“As for the Suns, they might already feel stuck with the Durant-Devin Booker-Bradley Beal trio, and this would help create a little wiggle room. They’d have additional assets to help flesh out the roster, a tall task as currently constructed since they’re over the second apron. They might also widen their window by swapping out the 35-year-old Durant for 28-year-old Towns, who has talked about reuniting with former Kentucky teammate Booker.“ Buckley added.
The Suns signed Durant to the roster in February 2023 to improve their performance. However, the opposite occurred, as the Suns lost four straight games against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs and got eliminated. Despite speculations, Durant was previously rumored to be traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he won two NBA Championships
