After a disappointing round one loss to the NY Knicks, Joel Embiid’s hopes of winning a championship with the Sixers were vanquished until next season. Despite his medical issues and surgery, the Cameroonian center soldiered on to withstand the barrage from Jalen Brunson and Co. Thanks to the early exit, Joel Embiid got the much-needed recovery time and recently shared an update on his current health status.
Joel Embiid was seen suited up for the UEFA Champions League Final game between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. He and Draymond Green joined the CBS analyst team ahead of the game, where Embiid disclosed his current condition. After fellow French native, Thierry Henry, inquired about his condition, Embiid said, “I feel great. Much better. The Knee the face. Much better.” (After 8:13)
With the face, he meant his Bells Palsey that emerged during the NBA playoffs round one after a lengthy recovery from his meniscus surgery. For Embiid and Team USA, the update is certainly a great one given the seven-footer’s allegiance to the star-spangled colors. But for the Sixers, this season was the same old, same old and without significant reinforcements the trend can continue.
Will Sixers Bring Back-Up for Joel Embiid?
The Sixers have a pivotal summer ahead of them. The process’s constant failure in the playoffs raises huge question marks over the pieces surrounding their big man and something has to change. Tyrese Maxey’s breakout season has helped the team enormously during the former MVP’s absence, but they need more to have a championship bid.
According to reports, Paul George is one of the pieces that could come in during the summer as the Clippers forward has a $48 million player option and can opt-out to hit free agency.

The other big name linked to the Philly franchise is Jimmy Butler. The Heat star has received open criticism from Pat Riley for his absence in the playoffs, but as things stand, Butler is not contemplating a move away from Florida.
Given the salary cap situation at the Sixers, pulling off multiple big moves is out of the question. But if the Philly franchise can land one of the two ballers, their big 3 with Embiid and Maxey could have enough ammunition to worry the Eastern Conference.
