Tyrese Maxey, a guard with the Philadelphia 76ers, was chosen as the recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship Award for this year on Thursday. Joel Embiid, Maxey’s excellent teammate, gave him a shoutout after his second triumph of the awards season.
A few weeks after being voted the league’s Most Improved Player, Maxey won his first Joe Dumars Trophy, capping an outstanding 2023–24 season for the 23-year-old. According to the NBA website, he is only the second Sixer to win the trophy, which has been given out yearly since the 1995–96 campaign, after former Philadelphia player Eric Snow (1999–00).
Tyrese Maxey was one of thirty athletes nominated by their teams for the award. A select group of NBA executives reduced The candidate pool to six players, one from each of the league’s divisions. The victor would be chosen by active players.
First-time All-Star Kevin Love defeated experienced big man Kevin Love of the Miami Heat, who finished second with 2,545 points to Love’s 2,313. Jarrett Allen, the center for the Cleveland Cavaliers, finished third with 2,299 points. Embiid refrained from offering any further remarks. However, it appeared like the 2023 MVP valued his colleague’s efforts to have a positive outlook on the season.

Tyrese Maxey was taken aback by his parents’ quick award ceremony, held at home to present him with his Sportsmanship Award.
They greeted Maxey at the door, congratulated him on his achievement, and gave him the Joe Dumars Trophy. The Sixers player gave an impromptu acceptance speech, seeming taken aback.
