NBA insider Keith Pompey recently revealed on “Locked On 76ers” that the Philadelphia 76ers regret not keeping Jimmy Butler. According to Pompey, the Sixers have come to appreciate Butler’s athleticism and legacy over the past five years. They now wish to rectify their mistake by bringing him back.
“Talking to my sources, the 76ers’ ownership group — they kinda regret what they did five years ago [in trading Jimmy Butler] and they see the success that he’s had. And they realize … he could be in their eyes, the missing piece, and they’re willing to give him the money he wants,” Pompey said.
Butler, who recently stirred media with Lionel Messi, played only one season with the Sixers before joining the Miami Heat in 2019. Since then, he has proven to be an outstanding fit for the Heat. In his first season with Miami, Butler led the team to the NBA Finals. He repeated this feat in 2023, helping the Heat reach their second NBA Finals in four years.
Jimmy Butler Aims for Max Contract Extension
Miami Heat reporter Anthony Chiang has revealed that Jimmy Butler is seeking a max contract extension. Butler is prioritizing his monetary value in this regard.
“Jimmy Butler wants a max extension this offseason, preferably from the Heat. But whether it’s from the Heat or another team, he wants a max extension,” Chiang reported.

Butler is already under contract with Miami for the next season and has a player option for the 2025–26 campaign. He is reportedly seeking a two-year max extension worth $113 million. Yet, given his recent injury in the playoffs, there is speculation that the Heat might consider moving him if the right offer comes along.
After having seen Butler’s consistent performance and impact, the Sixers could provide him the max extension he desires. They can make a significant push to elevate their team’s potential by bringing him.
