Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka received a season-long suspension for having a relationship with another member of the organization, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Paul Pierce thinks that is ridiculous.
“It should just be a fine not a suspension,” Pierce said in a short statement on Twitter.
Having an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate is frowned upon, but usually doesn’t get this type of punishment. It leads you to believe that the woman in question is likely connected to somebody already in the organization with power.
Assistant coach Joe Mazzulla is expected to take over as acting head coach for the 2022-23 season in Udoka’s absence.
Udoka is approaching his second year as Boston’s head coach. He helped guide the Celtics to a 51-31 record and an NBA Finals appearance in 2021-22.
