Earlier this year, Paul Pierce had social media on fire when he suddenly went on Instagram Live while having a stripper-poker party with some friends.
His employer, ESPN, would soon part ways with him. Pierce posted a four-second video to social media laughing with the hashtag #smile and #truthshallsetufree. If you ask him about it, he was “done” with ESPN anyway.
The relationship was strained and he didn’t like having “to talk about LeBron all the time” when doing NBA coverage. Pierce is getting set to enter the hall of fame and has zero regrets on what happened with that party and the aftermath, according to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix.
Some people, including his agent and Jerry Colangelo, suggested Paul Pierce apologize anyway to ensure voters wouldn’t hold the incident against him. Pierce disagreed.
“Come on, I didn’t do anything illegal,” says Paul Pierce. “These motherf—–s in the Hall of Fame, some did [cocaine], f—ing battery. What the f— did I do? I was just having a good time. All the people coming after me, half you motherf—–s do the same s—. You’re just hiding it. And you all are married while you’re doing it. I’m divorced. I’m retired. I’m having fun.” And if Hall voters had held it against him? “Listen,” says Pierce, “if I didn’t make it with this class, it would be the biggest stiff job in Hall of Fame history.”
Pierce, who was born and raised in Oakland, was an analyst for the cable sports network on multiple NBA shows like “The Jump” and “NBA Countdown”.
